Fissure Sealants Melton
Fissure sealants are non invasive and prevent tooth decay in the grooves and pits of a tooth!
What are fissure sealants?
Fissure sealants are coating that we place in the pits and grooves of the teeth, we use a filling like material that seals these areas of a tooth so no bacteria and food can sit in them and thus prevents tooth decay!
They are a preventative measure and by placing them our goal is to prevent the need for any fillings to be placed on the grooves or pits of the tooth.
Can the fissure sealant fall out?
Yes they can fall out, no filling material lasts forever and just like a tooth filling your fissure sealant can fall out or wear over time from eating or biting onto it.
At Western Dental Hygiene if you return for you first designated checkup and clean recall after your fissure sealant was placed by us at our Melton clinic and it has worn away or fallen off we will replace it at no extra charge.
(We give a six months guarantee, you must return within the six months of the fissure sealant being placed for a checkup and clean appointment for no replacement fee to be charged)
Do you need to drill on the tooth to place the fissure sealant?
NO!
There is no drilling involved when we place fissure sealants at Western Dental Hygiene, our goal is to preserve tooth structure and surface and there is no need to drill onto the tooth and cause tooth loss.
If a drill was used to place a fissure sealant, a fissure sealant was not placed- a filling was and your tooth has been damaged underneath.
Can I still get tooth decay with a fissure sealant?
Yes you can, the fissure sealant will only stop decay in the grooves or pits of the tooth and can not stop tooth decay forming anywhere else on the tooth.
The grooves and pits of the teeth are high risk areas where tooth decay happens as food and bacteria can sit in these areas for long periods of time.
We also provide you with lots of information to prevent decay from occurring.
